Wangari Kagai is an Advocates of the High Court of Kenya serving as the Head of the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Directorate at the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) where she leads a team of dedicated lawyers committed to advancing justice through strategic litigation and advocacy. Every day, Wangari and her team are on hand to tackle major access to justice and legal challenges to promote systemic change, uphold the rule of law, and protect human rights of citizens in Kenya. Wangari also serves as the Secretary of the Public Interest Litigation, Legal Aid, and Human Rights Committee as well as the In-House Counsels Committee.
She holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Moi University, a Postgraduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law and Master of Law (LL.M.) in International Finance Law and Regulations from Strathmore Law School.
Wangari serves as a board member of Dada Digital, an organization dedicated to empowering women from marginalized communities. She also serves as a member of the Rule of Law Committee of the East African Law Society (EALS) and is a member of the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ). She co-founded the Constitutional Law Practitioners Forum and served as the Class President for the class of 2022 at Strathmore Law School. She is the founder of Kagai Pecuniary and Public Interest Consultancy which is a women-led consultancy is committed to the rule of law, access to justice, and human rights programs, providing expertise in both public finance and corporate finance. She is passionate about leveraging her expertise to drive meaningful change and justice.
Flaviana Charles
Flaviana Charles is a seasoned and respected business and human rights expert serving as the Executive Director of Business and Human Rights Tanzania (BHRT) and a mediator under the African Union’s FemWise-Africa network for women in conflict prevention and mediation.
Flaviana holds various regional and continental leadership roles including Chairperson of the Coalition of Women Human Rights Defenders in Tanzania and the Secretary General of the African Bar Association (AFBA). She is a past Vice President of the Tanganyika Law Society (TLS) and serves as an editor for the Business and Human Rights Journal (BHRJ), published by Cambridge University Press.
She holds a Master’s in International Law and Human Rights from Coventry University, UK and is pursuing a PhD at the Open University of Tanzania. She has extensive experience in legal advocacy, corporate governance, and mediation, with certifications in legislative drafting, arbitration, and ISO 26000 Social Responsibility. In addition to being a respected speaker and trainer, she has presented at the United Nations in Geneva, the African Regional Forum in Ethiopia, and various business and human rights forums globally. Her publications focus on corporate accountability, environmental rights, and gender equity in the extractive sector. Flaviana is also a university lecturer and a board member of Tangible Initiative for Local Development in Tanzania. Her work continues to shape responsible business practices and human rights policies across Africa.
Dr. Conrad Bosire
Dr. Conrad M. Bosire is a lawyer by training and has experience in the areas of law, governance, democracy, and development and has worked in the academia, civil society, and various public institutions, locally and abroad. Dr. Bosire’s specific expertise is in multi-level systems of governance (federalism, devolution and decentralisation), as well as in the areas of judicial reform and justice systems.
Dr. Bosire was the Chief of Staff in the Kenya Judiciary from 2018-2021 and the Acting Executive Director of the National Council on the Administration of Justice (NCAJ) during the same period. Previously, Dr. Bosire was the Director of Research at the Katiba Institute in Nairobi. Dr. Bosire holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Law) from the University of the Western Cape, a post-graduate diploma in federalism and devolution from the Institute of Federalism at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, a Master of Laws (LLM) in Human Rights and Democratisation from the University of Pretoria, and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from Moi University.
Dr. Bosire is currently an adjunct lecturer at Strathmore Law School and an independent consultant.
Eddah Ngahu
Eddah Ngahu is a distinguished legal and compliance expert with over 15 years of experience as a commercial lawyer, entrepreneur, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Public Secretary, and Risk Governance and Compliance Specialist. At Responsible Business Institute Africa (RBI-Africa), Eddah leads governance and compliance strategies, leveraging her extensive background to promote robust compliance frameworks and responsible business practices.
Eddah’s experience includes being a Senior Partner in a leading law firm, advising on complex commercial transactions,capital markets compliance, corporate governance, risk management, and legal compliance. She provides advisory services to boards and executive management on regulatory and governance matters, ensuring alignment with best practices in risk governance and compliance.
She also has experience working as a Compliance Risk Manager, Legal Manager and Internal Auditor with leading corporations and has contributed significantly in audit, assurance, and taxation in addition to having worked with leading audit firms and the Office of the Attorney General in kenya.
Eddah holds an LLM in Corporate Law and is a member of the Law Society of Kenya, Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, and Institute of Certified Public Accountants Kenya, Her credentials in capital markets compliance and transaction advisory on multimillion-dollar projects in sectors like real estate, infrastructure, energy, and finance has been her nominated as one of the top 100 commercial lawyers in Kenya and is a trusted governance and compliance authority in Kenya and in East Africa.
Patrick Karanja
Patrick is the Lead Consultant at Responsible Business Institute Africa. He has studied for Bachelor of Laws, Master of Science in Management and Organization Development and Executive Master on Business and Human Rights. In addition to Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice, he has also undertaken training on corporate governance, business and human rights and project management.
Patrick is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya, an Arthur Helton Fellow, a Youth on Sustainability Alumni, a Member of the East Africa Law Society Business and Human Rights Committee and a Member of the Law Society of Kenya Public Interest Legal Aid and Human Rights Committee. He also sits in the Boards of various Charities, including Daraja Kenya Initiative, Kijani Institute and i5 Children Centre.
Patrick has more than 15 years’ experience working in the legal and development sector. He has worked with Advocates for International Development (A4ID) as Consultant Project Lead – Africa coordinating A4ID’s access to justice and rule of law projects in Africa. He has been instrumental in engaging the legal community in East Africa on business and human rights. Patrick has been a key speaker and part of panel of experts on business and human rights in various regional level events. Patrick has also previously worked with Africa Office of Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights, Kenya National Commission on Human Rights and as a Partner in a Leading Commercial Law Firm.
